FAQ

5 things you should consider when buying a wooden floor: be it laminate or natural.

  1. Always set a budget, remembering, if the price sounds to good to be true, it's most likely of lesser quality and the back up service from the agent may not be what you are expecting.
  2. Choose a wood floor according to the rooms use - ensure you have the right class floor for the intended purpose.
  3. Choose a style / design to match and / or compliment the rooms décor remembering that you will probably change your furniture a couple of times before the floor needs changing.
  4. Choose a wood floor product with proper finish that can handle the traffic for that specific area / room. If you install a low traffic floor in a high traffic area the longevity of the floor will certainly be compromised and will not meet your expectations nor the lifespan of the warranty.
  5. Always use a professional wood floor contractor as there are many technical concerns that can adversely effect or compromise the performance of the product.

NATURAL WOODS.

Will my floor darken or change colour?

Wood itself changes color with age ("Patina"). Extreme hot sunlight through North / East facing windows, lack of exposure to light on floors under rugs or low furniture will all affect the colouring of your wood floor.

Will my wood floor dent?

Yes, wood dents. High heels, dropped heavy or sharp objects, metal tips on furniture legs and the unprotected rolling of heavy appliances such as fridges or freezers will certainly dent the floor.
Remove high heels or maintain proper heel-tip protectors. Provide large felt or rubber protectors under heavy furniture legs. Roll heavy casters over solid protection such as plywood only. For individual dents where wood fibers are not broken, cover with a dampened cloth and press with an electric iron to draw fibers up.

Will my floor stain or discolour?

It can. Water spills, water from continual source leading to mildew, decay or alkali can lead to stains. Traffic pattern wear, excessive harsh sunlight and light deprivation under area rugs, large low furniture can lead to dicolouration.

Repair or get rid of the water source, let dry. Minimize direct sunlight, relocate area rugs.

What will Pet Stains do to my floor?

(The source of these is pretty obvious isn't it?)

For the most part minor pet stains will lessen or get lighter with sanding. Repeated stains (the darker the deeper is the rule) will not sand out.

How can scratches or stains on wood flooring be repaired?

This depends entirely on the type of surface. Remember when removing stains from any wood floor, always begin at the outer edge of the stain and work toward the middle. Always use the wood flooring manufacturer's cleaning, repair and finishing products when known.
